It is important to take proper care of your fursuit
Fursuits are a luxury item that, much like cars and clothes, build up wear and tear overtime. But with proper care, fursuits can last years to continue to bring even MORE fun adventures! Here you can find some quick tips and tricks on keeping your fursuit as new as possible.
Lightly Cleaning your Fursuit
A light cleaning is quick and easy to do to keep the interior and exterior of your suit looking and smelling great while you are running around at conventions of events! A fursuit scent/cleaning spray is recommended for this, as they are tailored for quick sanitizing, with a refreshing after scent. Be sure to take care when spraying around the eyes on the head. Spraying a foot or two away from the head is the best way to ensure the eyes will not be damaged. On the inside, a quick couple of spritz on the inner lining should do the trick! The same in and out sprits works for bodysuits, hands, tails, and feet!
Deep Cleaning your Fursuit
Deep Cleaning the HeadDeep cleaning is a longer process that may take a few hours to be completed. Be careful when working around the eyes, as these paper towels and/or rags are only a preventative measure and are not supposed to get wet.
EXTERIOR If you have a green machine, that is the quickest and easiest method to getting the exterior of the head deeply cleaned. A mix of roughly 1:8 gentle detergent and water is recommended. If you do not have a green machine, a washrag with a solution of 1:8 gentle detergent and water can be used or even fursuit soap. Use the soapy rag to gentle work the solution into the suit. Once all of the exterior is scrubbed, take a new rag with only water and begin to scrub over the head to get the soap out. This step may have to be repeated 2-3 times before all of the soap is out of the head.Once done, leave the head to dry in front of a running fan. INTERIOR A 50-50 solution of water and rubbing alcohol is recommended to sanitize and clean the lining and the foam. Again, be careful soaking around the eyes, as even from the inside of the suit they may be vulnerable. Mix the solution into a spray bottle and spray it onto the inner lining of the head. You have sprayed enough when the lining is damp to the touch, but not soaking wet. Once done, place the head on top of a fan or place the opening of the head towards the fan. |
Deep Cleaning the Bodysuits, Hands, Feet, and TailA deeper clean may take up to a day to complete, so be sure you clean with ample time before wearing your suit again! There are two methods for deep cleaning a fursuit. The tub method, and the washer method.
TUB METHOD This is recommended for bodysuits with attached feet. Fill a bathtub with lukewarm water and put about a capful or two of gentle detergent into the tub and swish it around. Then, place the parts of the suit into the tub and scrub the soapy water into the parts. Then, drain the tub and squish out all of the excess water. If you have a detachable shower head, use that to rinse out the suit by spraying it with water and continuing to squish the water out. If not, place each part in the line of water and continue to squish the soapy water out of the suit. Once all of the soap is out of the suit, squish as much water as possible out before hanging it up to dry. Using a fan or two to dry the parts is highly recommended. WASHER METHOD The washer method is quite straight forward. Place the suit parts into the machine (all suit parts minus the head, unless otherwise stated, are machine washable). Use gentle detergent and make sure the machine is set to 'delicate', or a no heat setting is selected. Afterwards, the suit can either be put in a dryer on a no heat setting or hung up to dry. Using a fan or two to dry the parts is highly recommend if a dryer is not used. |
